Ceramic Pigments These ceramic coloring compounds are used like water colors for shading and details. They are applied to the surface of the enamel. The underlying enamel is stained by firing. Since they are highly pigmented powders, they are used in thin, film-like layers. They are not an enamel in themselves and need to be covered with a transparent enamel on the finish firing. Sold in 20 gram amounts per color. They can be mixed with Painting Flux or with Mixing White 913.

Overglaze & Underglaze Fine Line Black

For fine detail and texture. Comes either dry or in an oil. The dry can be mixed with a distilled water/Klyr-fire mixture When using the oil based material be sure the application is dry prior to firing. Failing to have it truly dry will cause the line to spread. Fire only until a sheen is seen on the black line. Further firing can cause the material to spread and give a fuzzy diffused line. as well as a sunken area where the line was drawn. Besides using a quill pen, brushes, sponges and other things can be used to apply the Fine Line Black. If a dribble or splotch happens that does not enhance your design let the fine line dry, when dry use a bamboo stick to clean up the piece, the fine line will not smear when it is dry.

Gold Marking Pen This pen looks like a regular ball point pen. The nib is saturated with the gold liquid and applies very nicely to an enamel, glass, or ceramic surface. Easy application for firing, Fires at 1150-1300 degrees F. GMP $15.90

Enamel Marking Pens

These are a wonderful addition for those of us who have trouble using a quill pen. You squeeze the pen to release the contents. If you have a bad case of arthritic hands, this may not be for you. The black and white dry quickly and seem not to spread when fired. The oil tends to stay where you place it. By sifting a color over the oil and then tilting the piece and tapping the excess enamel off, you can have a line or area of color with little effort. These can be used directly on metal or on a fired enamel surface. If you mark directly on metal, over sift with a coat of clear or light transparent before firing. When marking on a pre-fired surface, dry and then fire with or without an over sifting of enamel.
